The Internet

Global Positioning System (GPS)

Synergy

and

Solutions

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Application

Over twelve hundred miles above the earth, twenty- four satellites are ceaselessly orbiting the earth and sending radio signals to the earth that can be captured by hand-held receivers and used to determine our location, speed, direction of movement, altitude, time, latitude and longitude.  This system is called Global Positioning System (GPS).
Another satellite and wiring system connects countless computer networks all around the globe. This system is called the Information Super-Highway, the Net or the Internet.
The third system is called  the geographic information system (GIS) software that allows us to create, manage, display, visualize, and analyze geospatial data. It is estimated that about 80% of all data has a geospatial component.
When, where, and how these three scientific and technological giants meet to provide solutions is the purpose of this class or seminar.
